So…. What can we as candy makers do to celebrate? For starters lets celebrate both and give a DOUBLE DIPPED CHOCOLATE CARAMEL APPLE to our favorite teacher? Postman-lady, and/or neighbor??
October begins the season of yummy comfort foods, entertaining and celebrating with family and friends- from football parties to Halloween events there’s always room for delicious gourmet confections. (You don’t have to intimidate the burly football guys by calling your chocolates “gourmet.” They’ll get it when they taste them.
As Gourmet Candy Makers we’re not just about the high style and exotic ingredient confections we see in fine food magazines or Lifestyle articles. We are about making everything we create using the BEST INGREDIENTS we can gather AND taking special care in the process.
Learning how to use REAL chocolate (Tempering required) is the first BIG step in transitioning from the CRAFT of candy making to the ART of candy making. Carefully selecting the creams, butter, fruits, nutmeats and pure extracts (NOT imitations) is another step in the shift from a passing craft fancy to developing a signature reputation for amazing treats/gifts of gourmet chocolates.
I liken the transition from casual candy maker to passionate candy creator to a person learning to bake a cake. You may start with a mix, then begin tinkering with the mix by adding your own special flavors or ingredients. The next level is starting with a “scratch” recipe, slowly altering it until it is totally your own “creation” then look out world, you are now a baker! There’s really no going back once you become a truly passionate baker!
For the casual candy maker there are tons of kits and easy projects at your craft-hobby store. You can buy the easy to use candy making compound coating everywhere online. While this is a product I choose NOT to use, thousands of pounds are sold every year and thousands of crafters are super happy with their results!
